OAKWOOD — North Hall clinched the Region 7-3A title with a 14-2 win over West Hall on Monday at Spartans Field.

Jaret Bales allowed two runs on four hits in six innings while the offense pounded out 14 hits for the Class 3A second-ranked Trojans (21-4, 15-1 Region 7-3A) who also pushed their win streak to 10 straight.

The Trojans exploded for six runs in the opening frame as the first seven batters reached against West Hall starter Braden Simms. North Hall pushed its lead to 9-0 in the fourth but only five of the runs were earned as three big Spartans errors helped open the door.

Simms pitched five innings for West Hall  (19-8, 11-5 Region 7-3A) who, despite the loss, remained in second place in the region just percentage points ahead of both White County and Cherokee Bluff.

Jace Bowen and Eli Reece each had three hits and combined for five RBI to lead the North Hall attack. Bradford Puryear had two hits and two RBI and Jay Johnson also had two hits for the Trojans.

West Hall’s two runs came in the fifth on an RBI single from Simms and a Jackson Cooper RBI groundout to cut the lead to 9-2. But North Hall scored two more in the fifth and three in the seventh.

Simms, Jackson Cooper, Ryan Svetz, Evan Connor, and Will Brannan all had one hit for West Hall.

Landon Davis pitched the final inning for North Hall allowing just one hit and striking out two.

The two teams will resume their series on Wednesday at Cottrell Field. The Spartans can still finish second but would need to win the remaining two games in the series.

The Bears  (18-9, 10-6 Region 7-3A) ran their win streak to three straight and climbed into a statistical tie for second place in Region 7-3A after a big win at home on Monday.

The Bears are still in the running for a second-place finish. If they win out and get one more West Hall loss to North Hall, they would claim the No. 2 spot by virtue of their series’ wins over the Spartans and Warriors during the regular season.

Cherokee Bluff scored in all but one inning in a 14-hit barrage. The Bears scored three runs in the first and two in the second, and after the Bobcats cut the lead to 5-2 in the top of the third, Bluff answered with four in the bottom of the third and four more in the fourth to push its lead to 13-2.

Bryce England highlighted the fourth with a three-run home run and finished 3-for-3 with three RBI. Jacob Vokal and Caleb Miele had two hits and one RBI each while Dylan Kautz, Ben Jenkins, Lucas Tritt, Austin Wallace, Brody Beal, Ty Corbin, and Caleb Piland all had one hit for Cherokee Bluff.

Tyler Zawacki went 4 2/3 innings allowing four runs -- just two earned -- on seven hits and two walks and fanned seven to get the win.

Bluff will travel to Ellijay on Wednesday to resume their series with the Bobcats.
