BOGART — Both the Flowery Branch boys and girls tennis teams finished as Region 8-4A runners-up on Monday in the Region 8-4A tournament.
The Lady Falcons dropped a tough 3-2 decision to North Oconee in the region finals while the Branch boys lost 3-0 to North Oconee.
In the girls finals, Sandra Hernandez at No. 2 singles and Julianna Velaj at No. 3 singles got the wins for the Lady Falcons.
The Lady Falcons moved into the finals with a 4-0 win over Jefferson in the semifinals. In the semifinal match, Hernandez, Velaj, and No. 1 singles Alyssa McSpadden, along with the No. 2 doubles team of Savannah Regnier and Katie Martin, took the wins for the Lady Falcons.
The Branch boys, meanwhile, were swept by North Oconee 3-0 in the finals. The Falcons had moved into the championship match with a 3-0 win over Madison County.
Both teams will play host to first round playoff matches in the upcoming Class 4A state tournament.
