Baseball: Stanford leads No. 1 Buford past Brookwood

BUFORD — Five pitchers scattered seven hits and gave up just one run in leading Class 6A No. 1 Buford to an 8-1 win over Class 7A No. 5 Brookwood on Thursday at Gerald McQuaig Field.

Jackson Gaspard, Treyton Rank, Connor Sampers, Riley Stanford, Jax Brockett held the Broncos to just a fifth inning run. Meanwhile, the Wolves offense  hammered out 10 hits.

Stanford led the Buford (24-0) attack with two hits, including a three-run home run in the sixth, and had five RBI. Rank two hits and two RBI, Dylan Lesko had three hits, and Nathan Smith two hits for the Wolves (24-0).

Buford opened the game with a run in the first on a Stanford RBI single. The Wolves added three ore in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run single from Rank. Buford scored one in the fifth and Stanford’s blast in the sixth put a cap on the win.
