The Hall County Planning Commission recommended approval of a rezoning request that would pave the way for a new law firm along with storage units on Thompson Bridge Road in Murrayville at their meeting Monday.
The application from Mike Weaver is to rezone just under six acres of property on the east side of the road near Bark Camp Road from Highway Business and Agricultural-Residential to Planned Commercial Development. The project would re-purpose the existing bank building on the property into a new location for Weaver Law Firm, which currently has locations on E.E. Butler Parkway in Gainesville and Ga. 400 in Cumming.
The site plans provided by Weaver also show eight personal storage buildings and replacing an existing sign on Thompson Bridge Road with an LED display. Weaver said while there is not as much development in Murrayville as Gainesville or Cumming, he feels the traffic on Thompson Bridge Road makes it a good spot for a new location.
"We're always looking to expand," Weaver said. "Up in Murrayville, that is a very busy road. It's the gateway to the mountains. The bank had closed about a year and a half ago, it's a very nice building and we just thought that it would be a good location."
The planning commission recommended the rezoning unanimously. The Hall County Commission will vote on the item at their May 13 meeting.
Weaver said he plans to give the property a makeover, which he feels will add value to the surrounding area.
"We're going to spend a lot of money on it to make it look pretty. I think it will be by far the prettiest thing in Murrayville and I think it will be a welcome addition," Weaver said.
No one spoke against the request at Monday's meeting.
