TUNNEL HILL — The Flowery Branch boys soccer team continued its trek across Georgia Thursday night.

And once again the Class 4A fifth-ranked Falcons came home with a huge road victory, this time knocking off No. 2 Northwest Whitfield 1-0 in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.

A Marco Velasquez goal off a cross from Andree Jimenez 10 minutes in gave the Falcons (16-2-2) all they would need. From there, the back line of Will Watson, Eddy Chavez, Andy Aviles, and Yoel Chavez, along with keeper Sal Sengson put the clamps on a Bruins squad (10-3) that had been averaging 5.58 goals a game.

And, they did it all playing a man down for the final 35 minutes.

“To go up to the Dalton area and beat a team of that stature is huge,” Flowery Branch coach Sean Garnett said. “That was a great goal and really set the tone for us the rest of the game. And then playing with a man down? Just a huge accomplishment for these guys.”

Sengson finished with 10 saves for the Falcons.

The roadshow will continue for Branch next week.  The Falcons will travel to Savannah on Wednesday to take on Islands in the quarterfinals looking for a spot in the Final Four.
