ATLANTA — The Cherokee Bluff boys soccer team hit Class 3A's top-ranked team with everything it had.
Unfortunately, Westminster (12-2 Region 5-3A No. 1 seed) fired right back en route to a 4-1 win over the Bears (8-9 Region 7-3A No. 2 seed) in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs on Monday.
"I think we held our own against the top-ranked team in the state," Head Coach Heath Padgett said. "You can't switch off against a team like that. They are a very good side. I am extremely proud of how we played even though the result wasn't in our favor."
Garret Wayne scored the Bears' only goal 15 minutes into the game. The score gave Bluff the lead, 1-0.
Westminster, however, tied the game five minutes later and grabbed the lead for the first time, 2-1, right before the half.
"We adjusted at halftime to try to get more going in our attacking third," Padgett said. "They caught us sleeping in the back and scored two more in the first 15 minutes of the second half."
