A Hall County Superior Court judge has canceled all proceedings in her courtroom for the rest of the week after a potential juror tested positive for COVID-19.
Chief Judge Kathlene Gosselin made the decision after officials learned this morning that someone who reported for jury duty on Monday developed symptoms and was tested.
“Thankfully, our protocols were written for such an event as this,” stated Court Administrator Jason Stephenson. “Health screenings, socially-distanced seating, masks, frequent disinfecting, as well as staggered report times, controlled check-ins, sanitizer stations, minimized surface contact – all of these precautions were and continue to be taken in order to minimize the risk and comply with every public health recommendation available.”
Clerk staff are in the process of notifying all jurors that may have been in the same room with the person, although no jurors or court staff are required to quarantine at this time.
In addition to these precautions, Hall County Courts recently partnered with District 2 Public Health and the county’s Emergency Management Agency to host an on-site vaccination clinic for court personnel.
Judge Jason Deal, who is presiding over a separate trial, will continue his proceedings with a jury panel unaffected by the possible exposure.
