A pedestrian who was struck and killed on McEver Road Monday morning has been identified as a man who was part of Gainesville's homeless community.

George Morgan, 52, was believed to be from Maryland, according to Cpl. Jessica Van with the Gainesville Police Department.

There was no information on how long Morgan had lived in Gainesville.

The deadly accident happened around 6:15 a.m. near the intersection of McEver and Browns Bridge Road in the area of the RaceTrac convenience store. Morgan apparently was in the roadway and not in a crosswalk when he was struck. Van said he reportedly died at the scene.

The driver who struck Morgan remained at the scene of the accident and cooperated with the investigation. No charges are expected.
