On Friday morning, rising flood waters required the rescue of four people from a Dawsonville home.
A 9-1-1 call alerted the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office that two females and two children were trapped in a home where the water was swiftly entering. There was no power to the home, so they could not see how to make their way out safely. Also, the river had completely flooded their driveway with several feet of water.
According to the Dawson County Fire and Emergency Services, the 2:21 a.m. distress call sent deputies and fire personnel to the scene. When deputies arrived, they found the driveway flooded. They had to wade through the water on foot to assist in removing everyone safely from the home.
Deputies Tally Redmond and Deputy Bubba Jourdan were able to help carry the children and assist the women through the flooding waters to safety.
“We are proud of all our deputies and their desire to serve our people,” says a Facebook post from the department. “It is during times of crisis, such as this, that we truly realize the value of our peacekeepers.”
The flood victims were all safely evacuated from the situation and no one had any injuries. They were taken to a hotel until the floodwaters could recede.
