Joy Griffin, a Gainesville native who has served as the president of the United Way of Hall County and chief administrator at Carroll Daniel Construction, is set to take on a new role with Gainesville City Schools in April.

Griffin will take on the role of Director of Marketing, Communications & Public Relations beginning April 1, according to a release from the school system. The role is a brand-new position within the school district.

“It’s such an exciting opportunity to be a part of that big red family. I always have been, but it’s going to be exciting for that to be a part of my career,” Griffin said.

Jeremy Williams, superintendent of Gainesville City Schools, said more than 60 people applied for the position.

“Our search process was extensive and multi-faceted, and to have Joy join our team adds tremendous value,” Williams said. “The passion, knowledge, and foresight she brings to the table will allow us to take the next step in promoting the district where we celebrate high academic offerings, student body diversity, and extensive extracurricular opportunities.”

Griffin said she was born and raised in Gainesville, and while she briefly left early in her career, she moved back to the city to start a family.

“Gainesville is in my blood,” Griffin said.

While Griffin has always had a connection with the city, she said her role at the United Way gave her a newfound passion for Gainesville.

“I learned about a whole different side of our community, and what we are capable of together, what we can accomplish together in this unique, diverse community that we call home,” Griffin said.

Andy Stewart, Gainesville City Board of Education chairman said he believes many people in the community do not know about the quality of the Gainesville City School System.

“Because of her leadership positions in organizations such as Kiwanis Club of Gainesville, the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, Vision 2030, and the City of Gainesville Nonprofit Development Foundation, I believe Joy is uniquely qualified to help us tell our story,” Stewart said. “We are confident she will bring innovation coupled with tradition to help us build on our legacy at Gainesville City Schools.”

Joy Griffin will become the director of marketing, communications and public relations beginning April 1.
