BREVARD, N.C. — The Piedmont College volleyball team split Wednesday night with Brevard.
The Lady Lionsdopped the opening match 3-1 but rebounded with a 3-0 win in the second match.
In the opening match, the Lady Lions jumped out to an early lead and claimed a 25-19 win. Piedmont in control early but saw the Tornados roar back into the first set.
That momentum would surge into the second set as the Tornados claimed that one by a tight 25-23 decision to even up the match at 1-1.
Piedmont was unable to keep pace with the Tornados as Brevard claimed the match with wins in the third and fourth sets 25-17 and 25-21.
Brianna King tallied 13 and Jaclyn Sampson added 10 kills for Piedmont. Brown also added a career-high 32 assists and 13 digs.
In the second match, Piedmont controlled things from the outset. The Lady Lions claimed the match with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-16 sweep.
The Lady Lions had eight aces and added six blocks to just two each for Brevard. It was an equal team effort as Piedmont's setters split assists with Jennifer Herrera and Brown adding 10 each and Beil notching six of her own. Beil also added 16 digs while Sara Dicarlo led Piedmont with 18.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
-- Taylor Brown recorded 32 assists in the first match, a career-high for the junior.
--Three different Lady Lions had 10 or more digs in the first match led by Jessica Beil with 19.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
-- Brianna King led Piedmont in both matches with 13 kills in the first match and 11 in the second.
-- Jaclyn Sampson added 15 total kills including 10 in the first match.
