DAHLONEGA — Julianne Sutton scored 30 points as the No. 3 University of North Georgia women's basketball team took down No. 15 Union in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II South Regional Saturday evening, 66-58.
Union jumped out to an early 8-2 advantage and led 10-7 before the Nighthawks went on an 11-0 run in the first quarter. Both teams traded buckets throughout the second period as UNG led 32-30 at the half.
North Georgia started the second half on a 10-4 run, but the Lady Bulldogs answered at the beginning of the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run to tie the game at 54-54. With the game at 58-56 in favor of North Georgia, Sutton, Flowery Branch grad, dished out to Abbie Franklin for a 3-pointer from the left corner that pushed the lead back out to two possessions.
NOTES
- Sutton's 30 point performance was the third of her career. It's the 33rd time that she has scored 20 or more in a game, finishing just one rebound shy of her 21st career double-double.
- Union's Jalencia Williams had her second double-double of the regional with a 25 point, 10 rebound performance.
- North Georgia forced 15 Union turnovers while only committing six.

North Georgia will take on the winner of No. 5 Lander and No. 12 Valdosta State Monday evening at 6 p.m. with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line.
