Toccoa police last week arrested a Stephens County man suspected of burglarizing several storage units.
Bobby Ray Courtney, 44, of Toccoa, was arrested March 4 following a traffic stop by officers. A Toccoa police officer recognized the Honda Civic driven by Courtney as a suspect vehicle involved in a burglary at Family Pride Storage.
“While talking with Courtney, the officer observed many new items, tools, tires and some red bolt cutters in the floorboard,” said Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize. “Courtney admitted to cutting locks off the units and taking items from several units.”
During the subsequent investigation, officers located a sawed-off shotgun in the passenger floorboard along with a bag full of loaded magazines, Mize said.
A pouch of methamphetamine and a glass pipe were located on Courtney’s person, Mize said.
Courtney is charged with possession of a Schedule 1 controlled substance, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, burglary, two counts of criminal trespass, possession and use of drug-related objects, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, Mize said.
Charges are pending on other burglaries, Mize said.
