A Thursday-afternoon fire on the Banks County side of Alto destroyed a home and displaced its residents.

The fire, just before 2:15 p.m., was located at 120 Jerill Way, Alto.

“Upon arrival, units found a single-family residence fully involved with fire,” said Banks County Fire/EMS Chief Steve Nichols. “Occupants were home at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported. The residence is listed as a total loss.”

Nichols said the cause of the fire is listed as accidental, related to a cooking accident.

The American Red Cross responded to provide assistance to the family.

Because of the fire’s location, Nichols said units from Banks County Fire/EMS, Habersham County Emergency Services, and Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Department responded.
