GAINESVILLE — Class A Private No. 1-ranked Wesleyan scored seven runs in the final two innings to break open a close game with Class 3A No. 2 North Hall in an eventual 13-6 win for the Wolves on Wednesday at Lynn Cottrell Field.
Wesleyan (7-1) scored in every inning but the Trojans led 3-1 after the first inning highlighted by a two-run double by Jaret Bales. North Hall led 5-4 after the third on an error and a RBI single by Hunter Brooks.
In the top of the fourth Wesleyan tied it at 5 on a solo home run from James McCoy.
The Wolves then scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth before exploding for five in the seventh.
North Hall trimmed it to 8-6 in the sixth on a RBI groundout from Hudson Barrett but could not hold off the Wolves high-powered offense.
Bales started and gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits in four innings. Hunter Brooks and Landon Davis pitched the final three innings allowing eight runs on seven hits.
James McCoy started for Wesleyan but was roughed up for five runs on five hits in three innings. Dominick Scalese and Nate Kerpics pitched the final four innings for the Wolves surrendering just one run on one hit to hold off the Trojans.
