Baseball roundup: Lakeview rallies for win; Jefferson falls to No. 1 Hart Co. in 8 inn; Chestatee losses

GAINESVILLE — Lakeview Academy used a four run third inning to rally past East Hall, 6-3, on Tuesday in non-region action at Lions Field.

The Lions (2-0) tralied 2-1 before the big inning, which was highlighted by Jesse Whiting's two-run double for a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish.

East Hall took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a Orlando Mayweather RBI single. Lakeview tied in the bottom of the inning scoring on a wild pitch but the Vikings reclaimed the lead, 2-1, on a RBI single from Zach Kinsey.

After Lakeview’s big inning, East Hall cut the lead to 4-3 in the fourth on a Christian McCullough RBI single. The Lions answered with a run in the fifth on Tanner Allen a single.

Allen got the win on the mound for Lakeview going four innings, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out five. Conley Milwood and
Jake Hannon went the final three innings combined allowing just one hit with Hannon getting the save.

East Hall 10 hits on the day but left six runners on base. Mikey Parker had three hits and McCullough and Mayweather had two hits each for the Vikings.

The Lions will open Region 6-A Private playing host to King's Ridge on Friday.

East Hall (0-5) plays host to Cherokee Bluff on Wednesday.


HART COUNTY 2,
JEFFERSON 1 8 inn

The Class 4A No. 4 Dragons dropped a heartbreaker to the Class 3A No. 1 Bulldogs on Tuesday in Hartwell.

Jefferson (4-3) led from the outset getting an RBI double from Rem Maxwell scoring Cole Watkins in the top of the top of the first inning. But the Dragons would strand six runners over the last six innings.

The Bulldogs (6-1) did not tie the game until the fifth off Jefferson starter Landon Richards, who went 6 2/3 innings allowing just one hit with four strikeouts. The run came with a bases loaded fielder’s choice.

It stayed that way until the eighth when the Bulldogs got the winning run on another bases loaded fielder’s choice following an error, a single, and an intentional walk to open the inning.

Cole Watkins and Mason Cooper had two hits apiece for Jefferson. Maxwell and Jase Peoples had one hit each for the Dragons.

The two teams will conclude their home-and-home series on Thursday in Jefferson.


SOUTH FORSYTH 13,
CHESTATEE 2

South Forsyth blew open a close game with nine runs in the seventh to knock off the War Eagles at Chestatee Field.

Chestatee fell behind 3-0 in the top of the fourth but answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double from Hunter Potzner.

South Forsyth extended its lead to 4-2 in the sixth before exploding for nine runs on five hits, two walks, and two hit batters, and one big error in the frame.

Mattox Miller took the loss for Chestatee going four innings, allowing seven hits and three runs while striking out three. 

Nolan Turner was 3-for-3 for Chestatee and  Hunter Fouche and Levi Stowers each collected a pair of hits for the War Eagles (4-4) who have dropped two straight.

Chestatee next will travel to Union County on Thursday.
