The long road trip to Ocilla for the Towns County boys, but the return home was much shorter.
The Indians continued its historic season with a 61-54 win over Irwin County in the quarterfinals of the Class A Public tournament on the road on Tuesday. The Indians are now just two wins away from winning the program's first state championship.
Jake McTaggart led the Indians with 26 points, while Kolby Moss netted 19, and Aidan Berrong scored 13 points.
Towns County led after the first quarter, 17-14, and pushed the lead to 10 points by halftime, 31-21. In the second half, Towns County held on to a seven-point or more lead until late fourth quarter. Irwin County outpaced Towns County 10-5 in the fourth quarter, closing the gap, 53-51, the closest since the first quarter. But the Indians were able to hold off the Irwin County rally to win.

No. 7-ranked Carver-Columbus escaped with a one-point win over top-ranked Jefferson at home on Tuesday. The Lady Dragons trailed, 42-38, at the half and 47-46 heading into the final period. Jefferson had a shot with the final possession of the game but fell short.
Carver-Columbus will take on Region 8-4A No. 4 seed Cedar Shoals in the semifinals this weekend.
