It was a night that saw the state's perennial powers go down in the quarterfinals and for two other programs, their Cinderella seasons continue.

The Lumpkin County girls continue making program history as they strolled five-hours down I-75 to Pierce County to emerge winners in the Class 3A quarterfinals. The Lady Indians had to battle back twice and hold off two fierce Lady Bear runs to advance to their first-ever semifinals. Freshman Averie Jones led the Lady Indians with 23 points, and senior Isabel Davenport chipped in 17 points.
Lumpkin County will play host to Cross Creek on Friday at Lynn Cottrell Gym in Dahlonega. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
As for the Towns County boys, they're in the Class A Public semifinals for the first time ever as well with a 61-54 win over Irwin County on the road. The Indians led the entire way and held on late to knock off Irwin County.
They'll travel to Chattahoochee County this weekend. Day and time to be announced.
In Class 4A, the Jefferson girls had a shot late in the game to beat Carver-Columbus but fell short in their attempt to bust through the quarterfinal wall.
In Class 6A, the Buford girls' quest for their fifth straight state championship game came to an end on a poor shooting night at Buford City Arena against Lovejoy, 49-42. The loss also halted the Lady Wolves' 35-game win streak.
