New Hall County sewer rate approved

GAINESVILLE – The Hall County Commission gave unanimous approval Thursday evening to a resolution amending the county’s sewer and sewage disposal rate schedule.

No one addressed the commission in opposition to the rate increase and with its subsequent approval customers of Hall County will see a 5-percent increase in their bill beginning with the March billing cycle.  That billing is done through the Gainesville Water Resources Department as part of an inter-governmental agency agreement.

The ensuing nine years will see an annual rate increase of 1.65-percent beginning with the March billing cycle.  The county has over 30,000 customers and expects that number to grow to 54,000 by 2040.

At present the only areas able to connect to the county’s sewer service are in the very-northern portion of the county and along State Route 365, and in the very-southern portion of the county near Braselton.

The only question regarding the rate increase schedule came from Commissioner Billy Powell.  “Can this plan be modified in future expansion areas are chosen?” Powell asked.

“Absolutely,” Public Works Director Srikanth Yamala responded. “As a part of this Master Plan, or any Master Plan efforts, is to revisit this every five years or so, or if something happens within the five year period we could certainly add a corridor or two…and apply the same policies and procedures.”
