FLOWERY BRANCH — Former Gainesville football coach Bruce Miller is back roaming the sidelines as a head coach.

Lanier Christian Academy announced, in a press release, the Northeast Georgia coaching legend will take the helm of its football program in 2021.

"Coach Miller brings over thirty years of experience as a Varsity Head Coach," LCA Athletic Director Blake Anderson said. "His teams have been perennial winners with his most notable success coming at Gainesville High School between 2002-2017."

Miller guided the Red Elephants to the 2012 state championship with current Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. During his tenure at Gainesville, he led the Red Elephants to the state semifinals in 2002, runner-up in 2009 and 2013.

“Coach Miller will bring instant credibility to the Lightning Football program as we seek to establish ourselves as a consistent and sustainable force to help young men find their identity in Christ while pursuing excellence on the football field and in the classroom," Anderson said. “Growing young men that honor the Lord on and off the field is the goal of the Lightning football program, and we are blessed to have Coach Miller lead us in that endeavor.”

LCA Head of School, Dwayne Daniels, is also pleased to bring Miller on board.

"It is an honor to have Coach Miller lead our program and disciple young men," Daniels said. "His leadership and character are well proven, widely known and respected in our area and around the entire state."

Miller was named the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Coach of the Year in 2012, Region Coach of the Year in 2002, 2003, and 2005 and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Coach of the Year in 1991. He also was the head coach of the North All-Stars in the 2010 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association North/South All-Star Classic, with the North All-Stars defeating the South All-Stars 22-0 in Columbus.

Since his retirement from Gainesville, Miller has been an assistant coach at Lakeview Academy, Flowery Branch and West Hall.

Former Gainesville coach Bruce Miller has been hired to lead the Lanier Christian Academy football program.
