The COVID-19 vaccination suspension of an Elbert County clinic may end sooner than expected.
The Medical Center of Elberton was penalized for vaccinating teachers, who are not included in the current Phase 1A classification for vaccinations. The facility was suspended by the Georgia Department of Public Health in January from distributing additional vaccines until July 27, however, area television stations in South Carolina and Atlanta report modified terms of the suspension. The suspension now ends on March 13, with a probation period from March 14 to July 27. There are also multiple conditions attached.
One term is reported to be that the clinic can’t administer or distribute any vaccine except for the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine to vaccine patients who previously received their first dose from them.
Area television stations report that vaccines can be ordered starting March 8 in preparation for resuming vaccine distribution at the Medical Center on March 14.
Any violations of the rules from the DPH will result in terminating the Medical Center of Elberton permanently from the vaccine program.
The suspension began on January 27 when nearly 500 doses of the vaccine were seized from the Medical Center of Elberton by DPH after the discovery of teacher vaccinations.
The DPH said those vaccines were redistributed to other providers. The Medical Center appealed the process, Medical Center of Elberton employees told WYFF News in South Carolina, and the facility pleaded for a shortened suspension.
