Baseball: West Hall holds off East Hall

OAKWOOD — West Hall picked up its second straight win on Monday holding off East Hall, 5-1, at Spartans Field.

Nick Sturm earned the win tossing four innings and giving up one run on three hits while striking out two. Tyler Maynard got the save throwing the final three innings allowing no runs on three hits and fanning five.

The Spartans (3-3) took the initial lead with a run in the first on a Kyle Murphy sacrifice fly scoring Braden Simms. East Hall (0-3) tied the game in the top of the third on a RBI triple from Christian McCoullough scoring Jacob Poole.

West Hall answered in the bottom of the third with two runs on a Sims sac fly scoring Will Brannan and a RBI single from Murphy for a 3-1 lead. The Spartans added a run in the fifth on a RBI groundout and a RBI double form Jackson Cooper in the sixth.

Brannan finished with three hits for West Hall.

McCoullough, Orlando Mayweather, Alex Brock, and Luke Barton all had one hit for the Vikings.

West Hall next will travel to Gainesville on Friday. The Vikings will travel to Rabun County on Thursday.
