GAINESVILLE — The North Hall wrestling team will have to vacate its 2021 Class 3A dual state championship title due to a procedural error by the school, according to a release from Hall County School's Director of Communications Stan Lewis.

The procedural error by the school allowed an ineligible wrestler to compete in the state dual championships and the state traditional tournament this month.

Lewis said in the statement "as soon as the violation was realized, the school self-reported to the Georgia High School Association."

The GHSA also handed down a $500 fine for the violation and placed the wrestling program on "severe warning status for North Hall for one calendar year.

"The school deeply regrets the error and is saddened by the impact on the athletes and the community," Lewis said in the release.

According to Lewis, the sanctions do not change the Trojans' third-place finish in the 2021 Class 3A tradition state tournament, nor do they affect the four state titles earned by individual wrestlers.

"Those four individual titles are a school record," Lewis said.
