GAINESVILLE — North Hall's big opening day at the recent Class 3A Traditional wrestling tournament came at a big price.

Through a statement from Hall County Athletic Director Stan Lewis, "an ineligible student-athlete at North Hall mistakenly competed in GHSA sanctioned wrestling events. As soon as the school realized the error, it conducted an investigation, verified the violation, and immediately self-reported to the GHSA."

As a result, North Hall lost 30 points from its opening day total and eventually finished in third overall, losing by just 8.5 points to eventual state champion Rockmart, who had 202.5 points overall.

The Trojans won the Class 3A Duals state title two weeks ago and it is unclear as of Saturday whether they will have to vacate that title as well.

"This is extremely unfortunate and a difficult time for all involved. The matter is being addressed by North Hall High School, the Hall County School District, and the Georgia High School Association," Lewis went on to say in his statement released Saturday night.
