Boys soccer: Johnson gets first win; Branch holds off Gainesville

FLOWERY BRANCH — After battling Covid-19 issues the first two weeks of the season, the Johnson boys got their first win of 2021 on Friday.

The Knights held off Cherokee Bluff 3-1 on the road to improve to 1-1-1 on the season.

Johnson got goals Kevin Castillo, Landon Avalos, and Ramon Aguilar.

Johnson next will play host to East Hall on Tuesday at the Dungeon.

Bluff (1-3) will travel to Apalachee on Tuesday.

Flowery Branch remained unbeaten on the young season after taking a tough win over rival Gainesville on Friday at Falcons Field.

The Falcons (4-0) got goals from Edgar Hernandez and Max Garnett. And both Hernandez and Garnett each had one assist for the game.

Gainesville (2-2) dropped its second straight match after a 2-0 start to the season.

The Red Elephants will travel to Chestatee on Tuesday. Flowery Branch will play host to South Forsyth on Tuesday.
