The NHRA Southern Nationals drag racing event for the Camping World Drag Racing Series at Atlanta Dragway has been moved from its scheduled 2021 race date, according to a post on NHRA.com.
The race is now slated to be run at the Commerce, Georgia facility on April 30-May 4 from its originally scheduled dates on March 26-28.
“We are looking forward to celebrating the 40th NHRA Southern Nationals,” said Kasey Coler, NHRA vice president of Track Management & Operations in the post. “We believe the new dates will allow for more of our loyal Atlanta-based fans to attend the event and will allow us to comply with state health guidelines.”
The event, which has been on the tour since 1981, was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
No reason was listed for the rescheduling of the event. The move comes as the NHRA is searching for new ownership for the facility. The drag racing sanctioning body has owned the track since 1993.
