GAINESVILLE — North Hall's first-quarter performance ended up being the major difference in a 61-51 win over Lumpkin County in the first round of the Region 7-3A tournament at home on Thursday.
The Trojans opened the quarter on a 13-5 run to take a 20-11 lead after the first eight minutes. From there, North Hall was on a cross country run, pacing its way to the semifinals of the region tournament and a berth in the Class 3A state tournament.
Sam Gailey led the Trojans with 12 points, while Brady Hall added 10 and Robert Terry pitched in 9 points.
Jones Harris led the Indians with 28 points, including a 15-point second quarter that helped Lumpkin close the game by halftime, 31-26.
Gus Faulkner scored 10 points in the loss.
North Hall will play No. 1 seed White County on Saturday in Ellijay. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
