Region 7-3A boys: Dawson County blast Gilmer to make Class 3A state tournament

DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County cruised to a 79-41 win over Gilmer in the first round of the Region 7-3A tournament at the Ford Phillips Center on Thursday. 

Joakeim Celestin led the Tigers with 15 points and helped them to advance to the semifinals of the tournament against No. 2 seed Cherokee Bluff on Saturday in Ellijay. The win also punched the Tigers' ticket to the Class 3A state tournament later this month. 

Celestin was one of four Tigers in double figures. Tyler Lane turned in the double-double performance with 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Ty Whitmire added 12 points and Jaden Gibson chipped in 10. 

The Tigers opened the game on a 22-6 run, extending their lead to 20 points by halftime, 41-21.
