BLAIRSVILLE — The Banks County boys moved into first place in Region 8-2A after taking a 64-45 road win over Union County on Wednesday.
The victory also pushed the Leopards (15-7, 3-1 Region 8-2A) just one win from clinching the top seed in the upcoming region tournament.
Banks County stormed out to begin jumping on the Panthers (0-8, 0-3 Region 8-2A) with an 18-4 run to start the game. They took a 29-15 lead into halftime and then exploded for 25-15 third quarter to blow it open.
Garrett Presley had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists to lead Banks County. Dakota Ivey and Dakota Orr each had 8 points and Clay Gosnell had 7 points and 7 assists for the Leopards.
Banks County can clinch the top spot with a win against a surging Rabun County squad at home on Friday.
