Tennis: Branch teams sweep Mtn. View to open season

FLOWERY BRANCH — The Flowery Branch tennis teams took a sweep over Class 7A Mountain View on Tuesday at the Flowery Branch Courts.

The Flowery Branch girls got a dominating 5-0 win while the boys edged out the Bears 3-2, sweeping the singles to earn the win.

The Lady Falcons (1-0) did not drop a set in sweeping the singles and doubles.

Alyssa McSpadden got a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles while Sandra Hernandez took a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2. Julianna Velaj got a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.

In doubles, Polina Chernikova and Savannah Regnier won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 and the team of Avery Marx and Katie Martin won 6-2, 6-2 to complete the sweep.

In the boy's match, Will Hernandez, Jack Thomas, and Caden Caldwell all got straight-wins in singles for Branch (1-0). Hernandez won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, Thomas took a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2, and Caldwell got a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3.

Mountain View, however, swept the doubles for its two points. The Falcons’ No. 1 team of Grant Anglin and Josh Warren fell 6-4, 6-3 and the No. 2 team of Sam Jabloner and Santino Sengson lost 6-2, 6-2.
