Pro-football player and Gainesville native, Deshaun Watson, has established an endowed scholarship with The North Georgia Community Foundation (NGCF) that will award scholarships to Gainesville High School seniors.

According to a press release from NGCF, education is a major priority to the Deshaun Watson Foundation, and the Deshaun Watson Scholarship Fund will award two $2,500 scholarships per year to Gainesville High School seniors that have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA.

“We appreciate the trust that Deshaun Watson has instilled in NGCF by establishing this generous scholarship fund. As an endowed scholarship, it will “exist forever.” said Michelle Prater, President & CEO of NGCF in a prepared statement. “This is a great example of what our organization does every day. We help people with a passion for giving, develop a tangible plan for how their legacy will be lived out.”

NGCF is currently accepting applications for the Deshaun Watson Scholarship Fund, as well as other NGCF scholarships, through March 1, 2021. As part of the application process, scholarship reviewers will also review the applicants' extracurricular activities, volunteering efforts or employment during high school.

According to the release, NGCF awarded nearly 200 scholarships totaling $385,000 during their 2020 scholarship application cycle. They currently administer 65 active scholarship funds based on various criteria and purposes. Awards for the active scholarship funds range from $500 to $15,000 according to the release.

Information on NGCF scholarship opportunities and how to apply can be found on the NGCF website.
