Boys basketball: Jefferson wins McDonald's Shootout; Johnson, Rabun get tourney wins

HARTWELL — The Class 4A fifth-ranked Jefferson (13-1) boys knocked off JL Mann, SC to win the McDonald's Shootout Classic at Hart County in Hartwell on Tuesday.

Dalen Gales led the Dragons with 25 points, while Kadin Bailey added 15.

The Knights (1-10) snagged their first win of the season with a solid defensive performance in the Adairsville Christmas Clash on Wednesday.

Johnson opened the game with a 14-5 run and increased its lead after every quarter. The Knights led 29-19 at halftime and took a 44-25 lead into the fourth quarter.

Demetri Moon led Johnson with 20 points.

EJ Mahony scored 11 points for Dalton Academy.

Johnson next will take on Hebron Christian on Thursday in the fifth-place game..

Connor McKay turned in a double-double performance to lead the Wildcats past the Broncos in the semifinals of the Battle of the States tournament in Hiawassee on Tuesday. 

McKay scored a team-high 26 points and pulled 12 rebounds to lead a quartet of Wildcats in double figures. Cooper Welch joined McKay in the double-double column with 18 points and 10 boards. He also dished out five assists. Gus Hood totaled 16 points and four assists, while Grayson Carver had 14 points and four assists. Clayton Dixon ripped down 10 rebounds to go with his six points, five assists and three steal night.
