Girls basketball: East Hall beats Branch in 8-4A defensive battle; GHS rallies for win

RABBITTOWN — East Hall got its first Region 8-4A win of the season with a dominating defensive performance on Tuesday.

The Lady Vikings held Flowery Branch to 8-points or less in all four quarters in taking a 35-22 win at Valhalla. It was the second straight win overall for East Hall (6-3, 1-1 Region 8-4A).

The key was a 14-4 second quarter that gave the Lady Vikings a 23-9 halftime lead. Flowery Branch (4-4, 1-1 Region 8-4A) outscored East Hall 13-12 in the second half but could not get closer.

Audrey Griffin scored 11 points to lead East Hall. Alexi Burce added 9 points and Kaylana Curry had 7 points for the Lady Vikings.

Amiya Scott led Branch with 6 points. Bella Brick and Deniya Randolph each had 5 for the Lady Falcons.

Keidra Young hit four free throws in the final 30 seconds to help rally the Lady Red Elephants to a win on the road.

Young also poured in 10 of her game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Gainesville (6-4) led 14-12 after the first quarter and 26-22 at halftime. But Parkview reclaimed the lead 36-34 heading into the final period.

Julia Payne had 9 points, including a game-tying 3-pointer off the bench with 30 seconds left.

The Lady Red Elephants travel to Franklin County on Thursday for another non-region matchup.
