For the past 21 seasons, David Bishop has roamed the sidelines at The Brickyard.

Next year, he'll be roaming somewhere else. The long-time North Hall assistant coach and head coach announced that he'll be stepping down as head coach of the Trojans.

He said it was time for a change at The Brickyard.

"I would like to first thank my administration, Mr. Sam Borg, Mr. Billy Wells, Stan Lewis and Will Schofield for their unwavering support throughout my tenure as head coach," Bishop said. "To my players, past and present, you have always given great effort (by your choice), played with passion for each other and represented your community well.  You have made me proud and I will forever remember our times together."

Bishop lost his mother earlier this year and has continued to lead the Trojans despite the heavy burden.

"The past two years have been difficult on me both physically and emotionally and I have peace about my decision," he said. " While I don’t know what or where God is leading, I am trusting Him for the next chapter in my life."

North Hall athletic director said, "today is a day for us to celebrate coach Bishop."

"North Hall proudly reflects on his success on the field and on his positive influence on our players as a man of great character," Borg said. "Since 2001, Coach Bishop has poured his life and career into this program and this community. We encourage all of Trojan Nation to reach out today to thank Coach for his years of influence.

Bishop has truly been known as The Godfather of the wing-T offense in Northeast Georgia. His teams relied on a brutal attack that confused the opposing defenses, and it's been successful.

The Trojans have been in the hunt for a region title or home playoff spot during his tenure as head coach. Before that, Bishop directed former coach Bob Christmas's offense through the best years of North Hall football.

He steps away from the program having done 48 games, and 42 losses, in his eight seasons at the helm, while leading the Trojans to seven straight playoff appearances. The Trojans finished 6-5 this season with a first-round playoff berth.

"For 20 years, coach David Bishop has been a mentor to countless young men - at a time in which our world is in desperate need of positive role models and servant leadership," superintendent Schofield said. "Coach Bishop’s impact is felt far beyond the field at the ‘Brickyard’ and his presence will be missed greatly by NHHS and the HCSD."

David Bishop resigned as head coach at North Hall on Tuesday.
