The balance in several regions around Northeast Georgia already is showing just a week into region play. A full slate of action on Tuesday, including some key matchups on both the boys and girls side, could help shape the early contenders.
In Region 7-3A, six of the eight teams on the girls side sit at 1-1 while No. 1-ranked Lumpkin County (7-1, 2-0 Region 7-3A) is the only unbeaten so far. The Lady Indians play host to Gilmer (3-, 1-1 Region 7-3A) while Cherokee Bluff, North Hall, and East Forsyth all play host in crucial matchups. On the boys in 7-3A, North Hall (7-1, 2-0 Region 7-3A) and surprising Gilmer (8-0, 2-0 Region 7-3A) sit unbeaten while White County, Lumpkin County, Dawson County, and East Forsyth all are 1-1. Bluff and West Hall are still looking for their first region wins.
On the girls side in Region 8-4A, No. 2 Jefferson (9-0, 1-0 Region 8-4A) will head to Athens to take on Cedar Shoals (6-1, 1-0 Region 8-4A) in an early battle for the top spot. However, Flowery Branch (4-3, 1-0 Region 8-4A) also will try to remain unbeaten in region play traveling to East Hall, which is looking to avoid an 0-2 start. For the boys in 8-4A, it's almost identical. No. 6 Jefferson (7-1, 1-0 Region 8-4A) and Cedar Shoals (2-3, 1-0 Region 8-4A) battle to stay unbeaten while upstart Flowery Branch (7-2, 1-0 Region 8-4A) goes for a 2-0 start while East Hall (7-2, 0-1 Region 8-4A) is looking for its first region win.
In Region 6-7A, both Gainesville teams take on Parkview in non-region action while the No. 2-ranked North Forsyth (10-0, 2-0 Region 6-7A) girls take on winless Forsyth Central (0-11, 0-3 Region 6-7A). The North Forsyth boys (4-5, 0-2 Region 6-7A) are still looking for their first region win.
