Girls basketball: Lakeview falls in region opener; No. 1 Lumpkin routs Union

ROSWELL — The Lakeview Academy could not a fourth quarter, dropping a 39-37 heartbreaker to Fellowship Christian on Thursday to open Region 6-A Private play.

The Lady Lions (1-4, 0-1 Region 6-A Private) trailed 25-21 at the half but stormed out in the third quarter to grab the lead. But thy could hold off a late Fellowship Christian (3-2, 1-1 Region 6-A Private).

Lakeview was led by Joelle Snyder with 10 points. Freshman Dynesty Putman added 9 points and Sara Nivens pulled down 9 rebounds for the Lady Lions. Ashlyn Henderson had 6 points and 5 rebounds for Lakeview as well.

Lakeview is off until Dec. 10 when it plays host to St Francis in region play.


LUMPKIN COUNTY 84,
UNION COUNTY 49

The Class 3A No. 1-ranked Lady Indians exploded for a huge first run en route to a non-region win on Thursday.

Lumpkin County (4-1) opened the game with a 22-5 run and extended the lead to 44-21 by halftime. The Lady Indians hit 9 3-pointers in the first half.

Union County (1-5) outscored Lumpkin 16-13 in the third quarter but the Lady Indians blew it open with a 27-12 fourth quarter.

Mary Mullinax led Lumpkin County with 28 points, 17 in the second half. Ciera Brooks poured in 21 points and Lexi Pierce had 20 for the Lady Indians. Kate Jackson added 12 for Lumpkin County.

Ava Hunter paced Union County with 18 points. Lara Turner had 12 points and Rebekah Chambers 11 points for the Lady Panthers.
