Only about half of the area's basketball teams will be in action on Friday or Saturday, but Gainesville opens its Region 6-7A schedule on Friday.

Lakeview Academy opened its Region 6-A Private schedule on Thursday.

The Gainesville girls and boys open Region 6-7A play at home against West Forsyth.

Perhaps the best non-region showdown of the weekend will be at Valhalla as North Hall travels to East Hall with all four teams off to strong starts to the season. Banks County will travel to Commerce on Friday as well.

The play-in games for the 2021 Lanierland Tournament will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Johnson High School. In the girls matchup, No. 8 West Hall will take on No. 9 seed Johnson, followed by the boys game between No. 8 seed Johnson taking on No. 9 Flowery Branch. The winners move into the official brackets later this month while th losers will have to wait until 2022 to try and get back into the 8-team field.
