A Buford man facing charges in the 2020 death of his young daughter was killed in a traffic accident in Atlanta over the weekend.

Atlanta police told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Jerrail Maurice Mickens, 32, crashed his motorcycle around 1 a.m. Saturday on I-85 northbound near Cheshire Bridge Road. Mickens was found dead at the scene, and his motorcycle was located several feet away from his body.

Mickens and his wife were arrested in October 2020, four months after their daughter Kylie died. The child, who was 5-years-old at the time of her death on June 8, 2020, weighed just over seven pounds when she was taken to the hospital. An autopsy determined she had died of dehydration and malnutrition.

The parents were charged with felony murder and child cruelty following the release of the autopsy results.

Both the father and the mother - Porshe Danielle Mickens - have been out of jail on bond since November 2020.

Hall County District Attorney Lee Darragh said the death of the father will not stop the court case against the child's mother.

"The case against the mother of the child will still go forward and has not significantly changed by the death of Mr. Mickens," Darragh said in an email statement.
