Noise ordinance updated for Lawrenceville

Posted 9:36PM on Tuesday 23rd November 2021 ( 2 years ago )

A new noise ordinance in Lawrenceville will take effect Dec. 1. Loud noises are prohibited after 10 p.m. on weeknights and after 11 p.m. on the weekends.

The Lawrenceville City Council approved the changes. The old ordinance had not been updated since 2005, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The ordinance also addresses fireworks, which are prohibited except for special occasions such as New Year’s Eve, Memorial Day weekend, during July 4th holidays, and Labor Day Weekend. Fireworks are only allowed until midnight, except on New Year’s Eve when it’s extended to 1 a.m.

This new ordinance restricts landscape equipment, construction, loud engines, and commercial businesses – including restaurants if they are located near residences. It also includes parties where people are making loud noise. The only exception is in the case of sounds made by law enforcement or first responders. Vehicles that are operated by the city, as well as airplanes are also exempt.
