GAINESVILLE — On Monday, Lakeview Academy’s Board of Trustees, School Administration, Athletic and Fine Arts staff, made a unified decision to move from the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) to the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) beginning in the 2022-23 school year.

Lakeview Academy made this decision due to the changing landscape of GHSA (in particular, the new attendance zone policy) and in the hopes of providing greater enrollment opportunities. The decision came after extensive discussions with GHSA, the Georgia Independent School Association (GISA), and other schools across the state. Lakeview Academy is grateful for its association with GHSA and is eager to continue developing positive relationships with local public and private schools. The new league will be a merger of current GHSA private schools and current GISA schools.

“We are excited for the future of Lakeview -- specifically, the opportunities for growth and the ability to strengthen our programs -- that this move will bring,” Lakeview’s Head of School Dr. Kirsty Montgomery said.

In the weeks and months ahead, Lakeview Academy will continue discussions with the GISA regarding alignment and structure within the organization. Lakeview Academy’s families as well as other stakeholder will be notified as plans develop.

“We look forward to the move to GISA,” Lakeview Athletic Director Deuce Roark said. “We anticipate further growth in our athletic and fine arts programs. It’s an exciting time at Lakeview Academy.”

GISA is a non-profit association of private, independent, and parochial schools throughout the State of Georgia. Each GISA member school, including Lakeview Academy, is fully accredited by one or more of the nationally recognized regional accreditation bodies.
