GAINESVILLE — Heath Webb has resigned as the Gainesville High head football coach after four seasons.

The announcement was made Wednesday morning in a press release from Gainesville Athletic Director Adam Lindsey.

“We want to thank coach Webb for his commitment and service to our school and program for the last four years,” Lindsey said.

Webb coached the Red Elephants to an overall record of 18-25 during his four-year tenure. Gainesville finished the recent 2021 season with a 5-5 overall record and a 2-4 record in Region 6-7A. Gainesville missed out on the playoffs for the first time since 1999, ending one of the state's longest playoff streaks by any school.

Prior to coaching at Gainesville, Webb led Winder-Barrow for four seasons, where he led the Bulldoggs to four consecutive playoff runs.

Lindsey said the search for a new head coach will begin immediately.

“While change is never easy, we look ahead with excitement about what the future holds,” Lindsey said. “Our goal remains the same, and that’s to put Gainesville back among the premier football programs in the state.”
