OAKWOOD — West Hall needed just one game to make sure they would not go 0-fer this season.

The Spartans, who went 0-16 last season, used a 21-4 fourth quarter spurt to blow open a close game en route to a 54-30 win over arch-rival Johnson on Friday in both teams' season openers at Johnson.

Marco Fairley and Kamari Dowell both had key defensive stops to help spark the big run with the Spartans (1-0) leading just 33-26.

Stephen Clark paced West Hall with 13 points, all in the second half. Andrew Malin and Xavier Felix each had 9 for the Spartans.

Johnson (0-1) was paced by Jake Shaw's 9 points. Sebastian Madera added 8 for the Knights.

The Spartans next will travel to Flowery Branch on Tuesday. Johnson hits the road against East Forsyth on Tuesday.
