A Gainesville woman remained in the Hall County Jail Monday afternoon on charges filed in a fatal accident that happened Sunday in Murrayville.

The Georgia State Patrol said a trooper responded to the fatal collision on GA 60 (Thompson Bridge Road) at Rufus Bryant Road around 12:20 p.m.

The investigation determined a 1992 Chevrolet S10 pickup was stopped in the southbound lanes of the highway waiting to make a left turn onto Rufus Bryant Road. The driver of a southbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup traveling in the southbound lane failed to stop and struck the smaller truck from behind.

The driver of the Silverado, identified as Reyna Aguilar, 29, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Her 4-year-old son, who was in the truck with her, also was injured.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck suffered minor injuries. However, his passenger, David Norrell, 58, of Dawsonville was killed. The investigating trooper said Norrell was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash; he died at the scene.

All injured parties were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.

The Georgia State Patrol has charged Aguilar with homicide by vehicle in the second degree, driving while unlicensed and other traffic offenses. She is being held on a $22,390 bond.

Alcohol is not thought to be a factor in the crash, but investigators said they believe speed and inattention could be to blame.
