Jefferson will soon be home to the newest Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS) medical plaza.

NGHS officials broke ground on the new facility Wednesday, Oct. 27. The medical plaza should open in Fall 2022.

"This new building helps us continue our dedication of serving the communities around us with the right care in the right place,” said Carol Burrell, President and CEO of NGHS. “We’re thrilled to be able to offer more appointments with more care for a variety of needs here in Jefferson. There’s truly something special about this community so we couldn’t be happier to establish a medical plaza here.”

The single-story, 11,000-square-foot building will be accessible from U.S. 129, and it will be able to accommodate more than 50,000 visits per year, according to information provided by NGHS.

The new building will feature 26 exam rooms, where four family medicine providers will practice.

Included in the new Jefferson NGHS Medical Plaza are:

“Northeast Georgia Health System has been a tremendous piece of this community for years, so we’re ready for this new building to be here, making our Jefferson community even better than it already is,” said Jon Howell, mayor of Jefferson. “I know it will mean a lot to the citizens who call Jefferson home, and even to the ones who will travel here for care as they see the quality this medical plaza will bring.”

The groundbreaking ceremony was a virtual event so on-site attendance was limited. The ceremony is available for viewing at the NGHS Facebook page.
