Football: Big 3rd quarter helps Dawson County cruise past Indians

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — Dawson County's 28-point third quarter propelled them to a 42-8 win over Lumpkin County at Tiger Stadium on Friday. 

It was close in the first half, with the Indians (2-6, 1-4 Region 7-3A) taking a 2-0 lead on a safety, but the Tigers' offense found the endzone twice in the first half to take a 14-2 lead by halftime. 

Conley Dyer led the Tigers (5-4, 4-1 Region 7-3A) with 134 yards on 13 carries and three touchdowns. Zach Holtzclaw added 32 yards on the ground and a score. The senior quarterback also tossed 154 yards on a 12-of-19 performance and two touchdowns. 

Mason Sullens led the Indians' ground game with 11 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown. Cooper Scott was 13-of-28 passing for 151 yards. 

In the second half, the Tigers a rhythm, scoring 28 points to take a 42-8 lead. 

The Tigers will play host to North Hall on Friday for the No. 2 spot in the region.
