Gainesville has put itself behind the playoff eight ball with the 40-7 loss at West Forsyth on Friday.

The Red Elephants (4-4, 1-3 Region 6-7A) find themselves in sixth place in the Region 6-7A standings, meaning they must win out to get in the Class 7A playoffs.

But it won't be an easy task. They play host to region leader Denmark, who held on to beat South Forsyth for the top spot, 17-14, next week at City Park. Big Red will follow that with a road trip to Coal Mountain to take on North Forsyth, which is in a dogfight to make the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the win for West Forsyth (4-4, 2-2 Region 6-7A) helped its playoff hopes with the win. The Wolverines are in fourth place with North Forsyth, but the Raiders hold the tiebreaker over them right now.

It'll be an interesting two weeks in the region as West Forsyth plays third-place Lambert and region leader Denmark, while North Forsyth has Denmark and Gainesville.

West Forsyth took advantage of three Gainesville turnovers to take a 17-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Wolverines continued its dominance end route to the win.

Naim Cheeks scored the Red Elephants' only touchdown, late in the fourth quarter, on a one-yard run.
