School officials at Mill Creek High School were on high alert Thursday after a social media post emerged threatening to kill students.
The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that there was a heightened police presence at the high school in response to the threat. The Gwinnett Police Department confirmed that they assisted School Resource Officers in response. They added that they will assist with additional officers at all schools and will continue to increase police presence into next week.
The person who wrote the social media post, which emerged earlier this week, blamed Mill Creek students for bullying and social anxiety, and threatened to kill them, specifying that the event would occur on “Thursday.” Students had a digital learning day on Wednesday and returned to the classroom on Thursday.
The source and legitimacy of the post have not been determined yet, but in a letter to parents, Mill Creek Principal Jason Lane said school officials and authorities are taking the threat seriously. Lane initially contacted parents about the threat on Wednesday, then sent an updated letter Thursday asking anyone with information to come forward.
