A Clarkesville woman was killed Monday afternoon as she tried to drive across Ga. 15 in northern Habersham County.

The Georgia State Patrol said Elizabeth Peterson, 69, was traveling west on Tom Born Road near Turnerville. She stopped at the intersection of Tom Born and Ga. 15, but she neglected to yield to traffic before she attempted to cross the northbound lanes of the highway. As a result, Peterson's Honda CR-V was struck in the driver's side door by a northbound Ford F-250.

After impact, both the passenger car and the truck traveled north on Ga. 15 before leaving the shoulder and striking a guardrail.

Peterson was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. She died at the hospital.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the crash, according to state troopers.

The fatal collision happened just after 5 p.m.
