AccessWDUN projects new region alignments for area teams

On Monday, the Georgia High School Association Executive Committee voted to increase the out-of-zone multiplier from 2.0 to 3.0 during the annual state meeting.

Two days later, the speculation has begun on what would the region alignments look like for the six classifications the new multiplier would affect beginning with the 2022-23 academic school year

The new multiplier, which will affect the 2022-2024 reclassification cycle, passed by a wide margin of 56-15 with three abstaining. The approval of the higher multiplier also eliminated the two-class limit, meaning the multiplier can move a school up to any classification.

The 3.0 multiplier will count out-of-zone students three times and be added to the final enrollment numbers. The multiplier does not apply to Class A schools.

The Georgia High School Football Daily, in its Wednesday morning newsletter, released projected classifications based on "the 2019 out-of-zone percentages, 2019 private-school enrollment, and spring 2021 public-school enrollment." Click here to see those numbers.

The GHSA will complete its classifications later this month.

The AccessWDUN Sports department did its own speculation and how it would affect the 26 schools in its coverage area. Currently, at least one school plays in each of the eight GHSA classifications as they currently stand.
