A Clarkesville man was killed in a single-vehicle wreck Friday night, according to information released Tuesday morning by the Georgia State Patrol.

An accident report identified the victim as Austin Wilkes, 23, of the Cool Springs community.

The report said Wilkes was traveling southbound on Ben T. Huet Highway just before 10 p.m. on Oct. 1 when his pickup truck left the roadway. As Wilkes attempted to re-enter the road, he lost control of the vehicle and struck a culvert. The truck overturned as it hit a tree.

Wikes was not wearing a seat belt and he was thrown from the vehicle.

An obituary from Hillside Memorial Chapel said Wilkes was a 2016 graduate of Habersham Central High School. He also was a graduate of North Georgia Techical College.
